POPULATION

As of the year 2008 the population of the City of Cambridge is approximately 124,000.  Cambridge is part of the Regional Municipality of Waterloo with a population of over 500,000.

CLIMATE

Cambridge winters are normally moderate, occasionally accompanied by deep freezes. During the summer months the temperature on average rises to mid twenties, including many days with high humidity.

LOCATION

Cambridge is situated in the most prosperous, highly industrialized area of Canada and is within easy commuting distance of many major centres.

ROADS & HIGHWAYS

Located in the centre of the industrial heartland of Canada, Cambridge is served by several major highways; 401, 8, 24, 24A and 97. 

TRANSPORTATION

Roads

Cambridge’s location is serviced by a well established network of regional and provincial highways. Cambridge’s main transportation attribute is its location on the MacDonald Cartier Freeway or Highway 401. This extensive high quality road system throughout the Province of Ontario, puts Cambridge in an ideal position to service Canada’s industrial heartland and the North-Eastern United States.

Rail Service

Freight Service for Cambridge is provided by both Canadian National and Canadian Pacific. Passenger service is offered at Via Rail in Kitchener.

Airports

Cambridge’s business and leisure travelers are assured of worldwide air services with three airports less than an hour away.

Toronto’s Lester B. Pearson International Airport (YYZ) is located approximately 85 kilometers (50miles) east of Cambridge. www.gtaa.com

The Region of Waterloo International Airport (YKF) is located minutes from the City of Cambridge and provides a full range of regional and international air services. www.waterlooairport.ca

John C. Munro, Hamilton International Airport is located in Hamilton (YHM) approximately 50 kilometers (25 miles) from Cambridge and provides regional and international air services. www.flyhi.ca

Local & Regional Bus Transportation

Grand River Transit, operated by the Regional Municipality of Waterloo, provides for public transit in Cambridge and the cities of Kitchener and Waterloo. GRT maps, routes, and fares can be found at www.grt.ca

Out of Town Bus Services

Greyhound 1-800-661-8747 www.greyhound.ca and Coach Canada 1-800-461-7661 www.coachcanada.com provide daily bus service to & from Cambridge.

Port Facilities

Hamilton Harbour is 40 kilometers from Cambridge. The harbour facility is located on the west end of Lake Ontario, some 1,777 kilometers from the open sea and is located to serve the Industrial Heart of Ontario. Facilities include freight and bulk terminals www.hamiltonport.ca

SCHOOLS

Schools in Cambridge offer basic and specialized education from Kindergarten to Grade12, provided by two tax-supported school boards, one public and one Roman Catholic.

COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES

Conestoga College

Located just outside the City boundaries in Kitchener, Conestoga College is just a 10 km drive from Cambridge.  Conestoga College is considered one of Canada’s premier polytechnic institutes. The College offers a variety of different programs including full-time, part-time and apprenticeship programs on five campuses (Doon, Waterloo, Guelph, Stratford, and Cambridge).

University of Waterloo

The University of  Waterloo School of Architecture is located in downtown Cambridge.
The main campus is located in Waterloo, just a 25 km drive from Cambridge.  UW is the world’s largest cooperative university also boasting the world’s largest enrollment in mathematics and engineering.  The university is also a world leader in computer software design and development.

Wilfrid Laurier University

Wilfred Laurier University is located in Waterloo, a 24 km drive from Cambridge. WLU is best known for its excellence in Business programs including post-graduate studies. The faculties include Arts and Science, Music, Business and Economics, Graduate Studies and Social Work.

University of Guelph

University of Guelph is located in Guelph, a 24 km drive from Cambridge. University of Guelph is best known for its involvement in the development of bio-technology. Courses are offered in the faculties of Arts, Biological Science, Family and Consumer Studies and Culture, Veterinary Medicine, Physical Science and Social Science.

SHOPPING

If you love to shop, you will be pleased with the many shopping options available in Cambridge. With a Historic Farmers Market, Factory Outlet Stores, Canada’s largest Antique Market and a modern shopping mall which also includes a year round ice rink, there is lots of shopping to suit everyone.
